What Does a BOTOX®/XEOMIN Cosmetic Treatment Involve?
- Posted on: Aug 15 2015
Your facial muscles are employed whenever you smile, frown, laugh, cry or display any other emotion. As you use your muscles over and over again, you will develop permanent marks in the form of furrows and wrinkles in your skin. These marks are very prominent near your mouth and eyes, and on your forehead. XEOMIN/BOTOX Cosmetic treatment can prevent the formation of these marks, if the marks have already formed, erase them.
- How does it work? XEOMIN/BOTOX is actually botulinum toxic A, which is a muscle relaxant. It is obtained from a bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. When injected, it relaxes muscles and blocks nerves that cause repetitive actions (which are responsible for the wrinkles and creases on your face). XEOMIN/BOTOX first gained approval from the FDA for treating muscle spasms in the eye.
- The procedure: During the procedure, XEOMIN/BOTOX will be injected into your skin. Multiple injections may be needed. It is not unusual for some discomfort to be present but there is no need for an anesthetic. For better results, you may opt to undergo complementary procedures. You can discuss this with your doctor.
- Candidates: If you want to get rid of your lines and wrinkles, then you can opt for XEOMIN/BOTOX provided that are neither pregnant nor nursing and are healthy. If you are suffering from neuromuscular disorders, then you will be ineligible to undergo the XEOMIN/BOTOX treatment.
- Results and recovery: There is no recovery period. You can get back to work straight away. Results of the procedure will last for approximately four months, though many patients have reported longer lasting (up to twelve months) results. You will start seeing the results of the procedure within a day as your wrinkles start fading. Over the next few days, improvements will continue. You may experience some side effects like bruising and redness, but they will last only for a short time. Headaches are also possible.
