woman in silver bra against a white background Breast reduction surgery may be an effective option for women with breasts disproportionate to their body size. This procedure can help address discomfort and low self-esteem associated with overly large breasts. Here are four questions you might find useful when deciding if breast reduction is right for you:

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction surgery may be the right choice for those looking to reduce their overly large breasts. This is especially true for women who feel self-conscious and suffer physical discomfort, such as back pain, due to their condition. You should be at a healthy weight with a BMI (body mass index) no greater then 30 and a non-smoker. During your initial consultation, Dr. Ryan Frank will evaluate your medical history to determine if breast reduction surgery is viable.

Are There Different Types of Breast Reduction Surgery?

Yes, there are different types of breast reduction surgery. Dr. Frank offers different types of breast reduction surgery that will vary depending on the size of your breasts. Traditional surgery works best for patients with larger breasts, while Vertical Incision Breast Reduction works for moderately sized chests. Whatever your case, Dr. Frank will decide which technique will best fit your needs.

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Breast Reduction Surgery?

The healing period varies from patient to patient. Post-surgery, individuals may experience soreness and swelling at the location of their surgical procedure for a few days, along with some bruising. It is recommended that physical activity be kept to a minimum for approximately four weeks after the procedure to optimize the successful healing process.

Are There Any Complications Associated With Breast Reduction Surgery?

With any surgery, there is a potential for complications. Breast reduction surgery is no different. Some of the most common complications include scarring, infection, bleeding, and loss of sensation in the breasts. New mothers often struggle with the physical changes of pregnancy and childbirth, including sagging breasts, stubborn belly fat, and stretch marks. A mommy makeover combines plastic surgery procedures to help new mothers rejuvenate their bodies and regain confidence. The procedures can include a tummy tuck, breast lift, and liposuction. In this article, we’ll discuss what a mommy makeover is, the benefits, and what to expect during recovery.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a custom combination of plastic surgery procedures designed to address the specific concerns of new mothers. The procedures can vary depending on the individual’s needs and goals but typically include a tummy tuck, breast lift, and liposuction.

Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover has several benefits, including:

  • Restore your pre-baby body: A mommy makeover can help you restore your body and regain confidence.
  • Improve the appearance of sagging breasts: Pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause the breasts to sag, but a breast lift can help to restore their shape and lift.
  • Get rid of stubborn belly fat: Liposuction can help to remove stubborn belly fat that may be resistant to diet and exercise.
  • Reduce the appearance of stretch marks: A tummy tuck can help to remove excess skin and reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

What to Expect During the Recovery Process

The recovery process after a mommy makeover can vary depending on the individual and the procedures performed. You can generally expect to feel tired and sore for the first few days, with swelling and bruising subsiding after about a week.

Rhinoplasty: Achieving a Balanced Facial Profile with Nose Surgery

woman touching nose smile with clean and fresh skin Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is a popular procedure to help you achieve a more balanced facial profile. Whether you’re unhappy with the size or shape of your nose or are dealing with breathing difficulties, rhinoplasty can help you feel more confident and comfortable in your skin.

As someone who has always been self-conscious about my nose, I can attest to rhinoplasty’s transformative power. The procedure has helped me achieve a more proportionate and symmetrical appearance, which has positively impacted my self-esteem. But, the procedure is not just about aesthetics; it can also help with breathing difficulties.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to reshape the nose. It enables you to change the nose’s size, shape, or angle and correct structural deformities. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and can take one to three hours.

The procedure can be done in different ways, and there are two main types of rhinoplasty:

  • Open rhinoplasty: In this procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision on the columella, the strip of skin that separates the nostrils.
  • Closed rhinoplasty: In this procedure, the surgeon makes incisions inside the nostrils, avoiding visible scarring.

Recovering from Rhinoplasty

Recovery time can vary depending on the type of procedure and the individual patient. Some patients may experience swelling, bruising, and pain for a few days after the procedure, while others may experience more severe symptoms. Following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions and avoiding strenuous activity for the first few weeks after surgery is vital.

Results and Expectations

The final rhinoplasty results may take time to be visible. In most cases, it takes several weeks or even months for the swelling to subside and for the final shape of the nose to become apparent. It’s important to remember that rhinoplasty aims to achieve a natural-looking result rather than an unnatural or overdone appearance.

Why Should I Choose A Good Plastic Surgeon?

If you’re considering rhinoplasty, it’s important to research and chooses a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. A good surgeon will take the time to understand your goals and concerns and will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs.

4 Reasons to Consider Breast Plastic Surgery in the New Year

Smiling woman in bra posing over gray background A new year often means a new start; for many people, that means considering cosmetic procedures to help them look and feel their best.

If you’re thinking about breast plastic surgery, you should keep a few things in mind. Here are four reasons to consider breast plastic surgery in the New Year.

Improved Self-Esteem and Body Confidence

One of the most common reasons people get breast plastic surgery is to improve their self-esteem and body confidence.

If you’re unhappy with the size or shape of your breasts, breast surgery can help you achieve the look you desire.

Surgery can also be an option if you have asymmetrical breasts or are dissatisfied with how your breasts have changed after pregnancy or weight loss.

Clothing Options

Breast plastic surgery can also improve your clothing options.

If you’re unhappy with the way your clothes fit or want to be able to wear certain styles of clothing that you currently can’t, breast surgery can help.

For example, many women get breast implants to wear strapless tops and dresses without worrying about their breasts sagging or slipping out of place.

Physical Comfort

In addition to improving your appearance, breast surgery can provide physical comfort.

Many women with large breasts experience back pain, neck pain, and headaches due to the extra weight they carry around. Breast reduction surgery can help alleviate this pain by removing some of the excess tissue from your breasts.

This can also help improve your posture and make it easier to participate in activities like exercise that you may have been avoiding due to discomfort.

Health Benefits

The potential health benefits of breast plastic surgery are also worth considering.

For example, if you have very large breasts, you may be at a higher risk for certain cancers due to the extra tissue in your chest area. Breast reduction surgery may help reduce this risk by removing some of the tissue from your breasts.

Getting Your BMI Correct: What It Is & How To Do It

Nutritionist calculating body mass index of fat woman for obesity treatment Body mass index (BMI) measures body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women.

BMI is an estimation of body fat and is a good indication of disease risk associated with excess fat. You are more likely to develop certain diseases if your BMI is high, such as:

  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Gallstones
  • Breathing problems
  • Certain cancers

The BMI does not directly measure body fat but is a reliable indicator of body fatness. BMI can screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems, but it is not diagnostic of an individual’s body fatness or health. Here’s what you need to know.

How Does Knowing Your BMI Benefit You?

There are many benefits to knowing your BMI. BMI can help you to:

  • Determine if you are a healthy weight
  • Find out if you are at risk for any weight-related health problems
  • Set realistic weight-loss goals
  • Monitor your weight-loss progress
  • Determine if you need to lose weight
  • Prevent weight-related health problems

If you have concerns about your weight or BMI, talk to your doctor. They can provide you with more information and help you to set realistic weight-loss goals.

How to Calculate Your BMI

You can find BMI calculators online. Calculating BMI using imperial values is as simple as following these steps:

  1. Take your weight in pounds and multiply it by 703.
  2. Calculate your height in inches and multiply it by itself
  3. Divide step 1’s figure by step 3’s figure.

This number is your BMI. Using the weight status section below, compare this BMI value to yours.

What Do Your BMI Results Mean?

After calculating your BMI, you can use the BMI categories below to interpret your results:

Underweight: If your BMI is less than 18.5, you are considered underweight. You may be at risk for certain health problems as a result.

Healthy weight: You have a healthy BMI if your BMI is between 18.5 to 24.9. As a result, you are less likely to encounter any weight-related health issues.

Overweight: A BMI of 25 to 29.9 indicates you are overweight. You are, therefore, at risk for certain health problems.

Obese: If your BMI is 30 or above, you qualify as obese. Consequently, this means that you are at risk for certain health problems.

If you want to know more about body surgery and how it can help you achieve a new, beautiful you, please call Dr. Ryan Frank in Calgary at 403-245-1228.

4 Plastic Surgery Procedures To Help You Age Gracefully: Healthy Aging Month

charming mature asian lady looking at camera and smiles In celebration of Healthy Aging Month, let’s look at 4 different plastic surgery procedures that can help you age gracefully. Whether you’re looking to improve your skin health or correct a physical deformity, these procedures can help you look and feel your best as you age.

What is Healthy Aging?

The aging process is different for everyone. Some people age gracefully, while others seem to age overnight. But what does it really mean to age gracefully? And is there anything we can do to promote healthy aging?

Healthy aging is relatively new, but it is quickly gaining popularity. Healthy aging is all about making lifestyle choices that will help you age in a way that is healthy and sustainable. It means making choices that will help you stay independent and active as you age. And it means taking steps to prevent age-related diseases.

How Can You Age Healthy?

So what are some of the critical things you can do to promote healthy aging?

  • Eat a healthy diet: This means eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. It also means eating lean protein and healthy fats.
  • Exercise regularly: This means at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise most days of the week.
  • Keep your mind active: This means engaging in activities stimulating your brain, such as reading, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku.

You can promote healthy aging by doing these things.

4 Plastic Surgery Procedures to Help You Age Gracefully

As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity, and we start to see wrinkles and sagging. This is a natural part of the aging process, but it can be frustrating to look in the mirror and see signs of aging that we’d rather not see.

Fortunately, several plastic surgery procedures can help turn back the clock and help you age gracefully. Here are 4 of the most popular procedures:

  • Facelift: A facelift is a surgical procedure that tightens the skin on your face and neck, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin.
  • Botox: Botox is a minimally-invasive procedure that helps to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause them.
  • Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers are injections that plump up the skin, filling in wrinkles and fine lines.
  • Liposuction: Liposuction can help to remove unwanted fat deposits that can make you look heavier and older than you are.

If you’re considering these procedures, be sure to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to see if they’re right for you.

Can I Run After Breast Implant Removal Surgery?

woman with a delicate skin dressed in white lace underwear bra We recommend waiting at least 4 weeks before returning to vigorous activity.

Here are some tips for when you are ready to return to your exercise routine after breast augmentation removal surgery:

Don’t Push Yourself Too Hard

If you’re just coming off surgery for breast implant removal, don’t expect to do the same amount of exercise as before your procedure. Give yourself time to heal properly before increasing the intensity or duration of your workouts.

If a particular motion causes you pain & discomfort, then you should refrain from that motion until you feel comfortable with it. Being active during your healing, with lots of walking and climbing stairs will help you recover quickly.

Take it Slow at First

Start out with easy jogging and gradually work up to faster paces over time, if possible. Avoid sprinting until your body has had time to recover and heal completely from the operation itself.

It Helps Your Body Heal Faster

Running is great for your heart and lungs because it gets them working hard. It also helps prevent blood clots from forming in your legs, which makes healing faster and easier on your body. Even if you’re only able to go at a very slow pace, each step counts toward getting back into shape after surgery.

When you get breast implant removal surgery from Ryan Frank, MD, you can be certain that you are getting a surgeon that is ethical, compassionate and passionate about the work he does. He will take his time and make sure you understand every step of your breast implant removal recovery process. Make sure you choose Ryan Frank, MD by calling 403-245-1228 for your breast implant removal surgery in Alberta. You will not be disappointed.

Is Male Breast Reduction Right for You?

Shirtless White Man With Beautiful Hair is smiling and looking While ‘large breasts’ on men do not cause serious health problems, many people can develop lowered self-esteem, as well as physical discomfort from this condition. Additionally, excess weight in that area can interfere with living an active lifestyle.

Also known as gynecomastia, male breast reduction surgery is a solution for men who want to remove excess fat from their chests, as well as diminish the size of their areolas or nipples to achieve a more traditionally masculine stature.

The best candidate for this cosmetic surgery is someone who is bothered by their appearance and can’t eliminate the fat from diet and exercise alone. Dr. Ryan Frank in Calgary, AB specializes in this procedure and can help you decide if this is the right option.

What’s The Cause?

Excess fat in the chest area of men is oftentimes caused by poor diet and weight gain, but that is not the only contributor. Certain medications can cause the development of breasts, as well as genetics, hormonal irregularities, and age. Your doctor can help you figure out what the underlying cause is if you’re a male growing breasts.

If you are a heavy drinker, smoker, or steroid taker, you are not the best candidate for this procedure. Excess fat in the breasts is due to lifestyle choices instead of an inability to reduce their size.

What Can I Expect?

Gynecomastia is typically performed by using general anesthesia. The doctor then has two options about how to make incisions on the patient depending on what is causing the growth of the breasts. If they are caused by excess fatty tissue, the doctor will perform liposuction on the area through the lower halves of the areola or in the underarms.

If there is excess glandular tissue in the male breasts, the doctor will implement a surgical incision instead, and reposition the nipples and areola.

Patients are completely asleep during the procedure, and only experience minor discomfort during recovery time.

Schedule a consultation for gynecomastia with Dr. Ryan Frank at our office in Calgary, AB by calling 403-245-1228 today.

Platelets Have Power

Portrait of beautiful woman in studio Everyone is familiar with the power of platelets for stemming bleeding when our skin is cut. Platelets create the mesh that first stops the bleeding and then acts as the groundwork for the scab and eventually new supplies of collagen to fully repair the skin.

But what you don’t know about platelets could be just what your skin is looking for.

Platelet-rich plasma is a skin rejuvenation treatment we offer at JECT Medical Aesthetics.

What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Beyond its wound clogging benefits, the platelets in our blood play a critical role in the overall repair and rejuvenation of the skin. It does this with numerous protein growth factors that trigger all sorts of healing mechanisms in our skin.

Platelet-rich plasma is simply a concentrated form of a blood sample that accentuates these healing powers. At JECT in Dr. Frank’s practice, we take a typical blood sample, and we place it in a centrifuge. The centrifuge separates the different components of the blood. Red blood cells are divided and removed from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid that makes blood liquid). This plasma now contains a higher-than-normal number of platelets (four times higher) along with white blood cells and is called platelet-rich plasma. The key is the protein growth factors. These can be found in PRP:

  • Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) — Promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication, and collagen production.
  • Insulin-Like Growth Factor (IGF) — This is the regulator of normal physiology in nearly every type of cell in the human body.
  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) — Promotes growth and generation of vascular endothelial cells.
  • Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGF-b) — Promotes growth of skin cells and blood vessels necessary for wound healing.
  • Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) — Promotes growth of new skin cells, would healing, and collagen production.
  • Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) — Promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessels.

Good for the Skin

At JECT, we take your PRP and place it in shallow injections across areas you’re seeking to improve the skin. The PRP will stimulate skin improvement over the following weeks. Skin will become smoother, firmer, and more vibrant.

Interested in PRP in JECT Medical Aesthetics at Dr. Frank’s? Call us at (403) 245-1228 to schedule an appointment.
